May 2006 - The Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), a non-partisan, not-for-profit business group, has teamed with Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES) and Sterling Planet, Inc. to offer businesses a green power purchase option in Maryland's competitive retail electricity market. Through WGES, businesses can buy electricity with 50% or 100% wind energy content at rates below those for standard offer service. The product is supplied by Sterling Planet using renewable energy credits (RECs) sourced from wind projects located across the nation.

May 2004 - An aggregation of Maryland city and county agencies led by Montgomery County announced that it has signed a contract with Washington Gas Energy Services and Community Energy, Inc., to purchase wind energy to meet 5% of the group's combined electricity usage. Under the two-year deal, the buying group, which includes six County agencies, 11 municipalities, and Prince George's County, will collectively purchase 38 million kWh of wind energy annually sourced from the 66-MW Mountaineer Wind Energy Center in West Virginia.
Montgomery County has included the wind energy purchase as a control measure for ozone pollution in a "State Implementation Plan" (SIP) for air quality improvement, which was recently submitted for approval to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

February 2003 - Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES) and Community Energy Inc. announced wind power purchases by four organizations and businesses based in Washington, DC and surrounding areas. The new green power purchasers include: The power will be supplied from the 66-MW Mountaineer Wind Energy Center located in West Virginia, which began operating in December 2002 and is now the largest wind generating facility in the eastern United States. With the new commitments, WGES now has nearly 5,000 residential and small commercial customers in the Washington, DC-area supporting a total of 3.3 MW of wind energy generation.

October 2002 - Community Energy announced that it is partnering with Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES), an affiliate of Washington Gas, to offer wind energy to Capital-area businesses and residents.
The two companies also announced that they are supplying wind power to the U.S. Army, Catholic University, and the National Geographic Society (NGS). The Army purchase is equivalent to the entire power output of one, 1.5-MW wind turbine and will serve a portion of the electricity needs of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort McNair, and Adelphi Labs. Catholic University is also purchasing the equivalent output of one turbine, which will provide about 12% of the university's power needs. The NGS purchase will account for about 5% of the electricity needs of its D.C. headquarters.
The wind power will be supplied from the 65-MW Mountaineer Wind Energy Center under construction in Tucker County, West Virginia. The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2002. Exelon Power Team has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement for the output of the project.

August 2002 - The Catholic University of America, based in Washington D.C., announced that it has entered into an agreement with Washington Gas Energy Services to purchase wind energy to meet 12% of its electricity needs for five years. The power will come from the 66-MW Mountaineer Wind Energy Center—currently under construction in West Virginia—under a wholesale supply agreement with Community Energy. The purchase is equivalent to the entire annual output of one, 1.5-MW wind turbine.
WGES and Community Energy are launching a campaign to offer wind-generated power to institutions, businesses and residential consumers throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
