Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC)

June 2006 - Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC), the exclusive retail electric service provider for the Hawaiian island of Kauai, is considering a program to support the development of small, distributed renewable energy systems to be sited at residential and commercial customer locations. Customers participating in the program would agree to pay a "green" rate for the renewable energy generated on their property and used to supply their electrical load. KIUC has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to solicit competitive proposals for the renewable energy projects and will initiate development of the "green" rate in parallel with contract negotiations.
